Congressman Boucher to Head Critical Communications Subcommittee

PITTSBURGH, January 8, 2009 -- The American Cable Association (ACA) congratulated Congressman Rick Boucher (D-VA) for his selection as Chairman of the Communications, Technology and the Internet Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Representative Boucher assumed leadership of the important subcommittee taking the place of Chairman Representative Ed Markey's (D-MA), who is set to head the Energy and Environment Subcommittee.

"The ACA and its members congratulate Congressman Boucher on his appointment as chairman and look forward to working with him during this historic time," ACA President and CEO Matthew M. Polka said. "Congressman Boucher has one of the brightest minds in Washington regarding communications and technology issues, and his choice as chairman is a testament to both his knowledge and accomplishments in this field. As a representative of a rural district, he also fully understands the issues that face small operators and the unique challenges that our members face in providing advanced services to consumers in these areas."

Congressman Boucher has a long and distinguished history of leadership in the telecommunications industry and on the Telecommunications and Internet Subcommittee. He founded the House Internet Caucus in 1996 and currently serves as one of two House co-chairman of the more than 180 member group. In that position, he is a leading architect of federal policy for Information Technology and the Internet.
