American Cable Association President and CEO Matthew M. Polka issued the following statement on Oct. 28 regarding the Federal Communications Commission's decision to reform rural phone call completion regulations:
"ACA applauds the Federal Communications Commission for taking important steps to address the rural call completion problem that affects its member companies and their customers, and for the manner in which the agency processed it.
As ACA explained in its filings, the FCC needed to fix responsibility on the parties with the most direct control over call routing, and that subjecting smaller providers who transmit a small percentage of long distance calls would be unreasonably burdensome. ACA is pleased the FCC will require only providers with more than 100,000 lines and that make the initial choice as to how to route a call to collect, retain, and submit data to the FCC. We expect rural phone customers will benefit from today's action."
